Needs/Opportunities
Our economy has become increasingly global and knowledge-focused, but the education delivery system has not kept pace.
The San Diego region is known for entrepreneurship and innovation, with a wealth of high-tech firms in diverse sectors that rely on a well-educated, skilled workforce. Forbes magazine just named San Diego as the second most inventive city in the world. We need that kind of innovation to create a world-class youth support system that works for the 21st century.
There are plenty of jobs here, but much of our youth, especially in lower income neighborhoods, are not adequately prepared to fill those positions. Now is the time to start cultivating more local talent and enhance the economic vitality of the region.
City Heights has San Diego’s densest youth population, but lacks a clear and organized strategy to advance youth success. It is rich with youth oriented resources, including committed citizens, schools, philanthropic and nonprofit support. The high number of youth, schools and other resources create ideal conditions for success. We invite you to join this movement.
