Collaborative Action Networks and Plans
Early Literacy Action Team
The Early Literacy Collaborative Action Network focuses its attention on making sure that children have the support that they need to succeed in kindergarten through fifth grade. Numerous studies show that children who are on track in these grades are much more successful later in their academic careers.
To achieve this goal, the Early Literacy Collaborative Action Network is working to ensure that:
- Students are present at school
- Students attend their neighborhood school
- Students are proficient in reading in third grade
- Students are at grade level math in fifth grade
- Students are healthy and fit in fifth grade
Currently, the Early Literacy Collaborative Action Network is working on the Ready to Read Summer Initiative to provide parents with the tools that they need to help their children obtain basic literacy skills. The Team is also working to define other action that it can take in support of the focus areas listed above.
Members of the Early Literacy Collaborative Action Network include:
- Jose Cruz, San Diego Council on Literacy
- Kim Noriega, READ San Diego
